Course Description
For some Officers, preparing a search warrant can be an intimidating task. At the completion of this
course, the officer will have a complete understanding of the procedures that are associated with the
preparation and filing of a search warrant. Most importantly, after the officer completes this course,
they will have the knowledge to prepare a search warrant with confidence. This course is not based on Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, it is geared towards providing officers with the knowledge and understanding on how to prepare a strong affidavit!
This comprehensive course will cover the following information:
- Have an understanding of the time limitations.
- What information is needed to complete the "face sheet".
- How to prepare a good pedigree of yourself.
- How to present all the information you compiled in an Affidavit of Probable Cause.
- How to implement opinions resulting from your knowledge and experience.
- Know the requirements when applying for a "Night Time" warrant.
- The purpose of a sealed search warrant.
- How to prepare a sealing order.
- How to file the paperwork after a sealed warrant is obtained.
- How to Simplify a Receipt Inventory Sheet.
- The proper submission of paperwork after the warrant has been served.
This course is all “Hands On” and due to the interaction between attendees,
space is limited. At the completion of this course, each officer will leave with a Flash Drive,
containing completed search warrant documents, which they can utilize in the field.
This course of instruction is primarily focused around narcotics
investigations, but the procedures on how to prepare the search warrant applications can be applied to
other crimes.
